General Maintenance Worker

We are looking for a reliable and skilled General Maintenance Worker to join our Resident Services Team. This individual is responsible for performing general repairs, room upgrades, and maintenance tasks in apartment units and common areas. This role requires a hands-on person who takes pride in maintaining safe, clean, and well-functioning living spaces for senior residents. As this is a front-facing position, we are looking for someone with great communication skills who can build a friendly rapport with others.

Here is what else you’ll do in a day:
- Perform minor electrical & plumbing repairs
- Assist with any HVAC, PTAC, Heat Pump related issue
- Repair or replace small fixtures, appliances and equipment
- Help repair, move furniture and set up office and common areas as needed
- Troubleshoot telephone and internet related issues for residents
- Conduct routine checks of building systems
- Vacuum and sanitize common areas
- Help clean up spills, extract carpet Vacuum and attend to water leaks in the building
- Empty garbage and recycling bins and transport waste to appropriate areas
- Assist in snow removal, salting walkways (seasonally), or other weather-related tasks as needed
- Other tasks as required
Our ideal candidate:
- Has experience working in multi-residential communities within Resident Services/Building Services departments
- Has a genuine interest in working with seniors in a retirement/long-term care community setting
- Has a High School Diploma
- Has a Maintenance Technician/Building Systems certification (asset)
- Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems
- Has excellent skills in painting and drywall repair, minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical and basic repairs
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely
- English communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Must be able to work under pressure and with a minimum of supervision
- Physically able to perform maintenance duties (lifting 50 pounds, bending, standing)

Mandatory requirements:
- Cleared Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- Two-Step Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Test
- Completion of online mandatory training modules

- 10am – 6pm
- Thursday - Monday (please note this includes every weekend)

Process:
- A brief initial phone call - This will last up to ten minutes and will involve questions about previous experience, how you handle certain situations and availability.
- A first in-person interview - This interview will last between 30 & 45 minutes and will focus on getting to know you as a person as well as give you a chance to get to know Christie Gardens. There will be no questions based on your previous professional experience and the interviewer will not be from the Resident Services department.
- A Second in-person interview - This interview will last between 30 & 60 minutes and will involve questions around previous professional experience. The Team Leader for Resident Services will conduct this interview, likely with one other member of the Leadership Team.
- A Third Team Interview – This interview is less formal, hands on, and will last approximately 2-3 hours. You will spend time behind the reception desk with a member of the team to see what the job would be like.
- References – A member of Human Resources will reach out to you for 2-3 references – current or previous managers or direct supervisors.
